Lighthouse Keeper's Brass Oil Measure Can
Our 3 quart U.S. Lighthouse Keeper’s Brass Oil Measure Can (c.1877) is multi-functional with important historical significance. The beaded volume calibrations were an invaluable improvement for lighthouse keepers. The vessels were welcomed for their ease in transferring, accurately measuring, and filling their lamps with kerosene. Every gill of oil had to be accounted for.
We recreated this visually appealing century old design using tools and technology of the period. Interestingly enough modern day tools would not have simplified our endeavors. They will be consecutively numbered, and stamped AGA Correa & Son confirming their origin.
The top beading line indicates 3 quart capacity. When the can is topped off, the volume is exactly 4 quarts.
