Sand Dollar Small Tie Tack
The term "sand dollar" comes from the appearance of bleached skeletons of dead sand dollars after being washed ashore. They lack the velvet-like skin of spines and have been bleached white by sunlight. To beachcombers of the past, this suggested a large, silver coin, such as the old Spanish or American dollar.
